Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes
The Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes is a wonderful opportunity for parents, schools, and JDRF to partner together to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. JDRF offers this educational and engaging program that teaches students about type 1 diabetes, healthy living and the importance of community service through volunteering and fundraising. The JDRF Kids Walk Program is great fun for the students and simultaneously it helps raise important research dollars. Students who have type 1 diabetes feel really appreciative that their school is doing something to support them- it means a lot to the student and their family.
Here are some highlights of the program:
- The program is fully implemented by JDRF staff and volunteers.
- JDRF leads assemblies for school (split up by classes or grades).
- Students are given a collection envelope and 10 sneakers to sell. They have two weeks to fundraise.
- Money and sneakers are turned into the school contact.
- Walk on school campus is held two weeks after assembly.
- Awards presentation held one week after walk.
- Schools are eligible to receive 10% of the fundraised money
