About JDRF

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research.

JDRF San Diego serves all of San Diego and Imperial counties as well as the Temecula – Lake Elsinore area. In 2011, together we raised more than $2 milllion toward the JDRF mission.

The San Diego Chapter supports adults with T1D, children with T1D and their families through a wide variety of support programs which include ACT 1 – Adults Conquering Type 1, Just for Parent Coffee groups, Family Network events and the DiaBuddies Teen group. The chapter raises much needed funds forT1D research through The Promise Ball, The Ride to Cure Diabetes as well as multiple community events

The San Diego Chapter of JDRF was founded by a group of concerned parents of children with T1D in the mid 1980s. These parents were committed to raising funds that would go directly to T1D research. They worked relentlessly to put together fundraising events which included Theater fundraisers, JDRF Benihana Nights, Holiday fundraising parties and of course the Walk to Cure Diabetes.

The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.

Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to T1D research. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Past JDRF research efforts have helped to significantly improve the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.
