| TrialNet T1D Screening & Education Event with Olympian Gary Hall Jr. | ||||

| Join Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute, JDRF and other local diabetes organizations for this education and screening event. The event will start with Kids and Teens Art Lessons with awarding winning artist Zoey Stevens. A presentation on What You Should Know About Clinical Trials in T1D featuring Dr. Stephen Gitelman and Dr. Athena Philis Tsimikas will start at 6:30pm, followed by a panel discussion on Managing Your Diabetes & Exercise which will include Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Gary Hall Jr. and former Stanford football player Andy Altman. If you have a relative with T1D, your chances of being diagnosed with the disease are 15 times greater than a person with no family history of the disease. Research has shown that the potential risk of T1D can be detected years before symptoms appear which provides a window of opportunity when steps can be taken to attempt to delay or prevent the disease. Free TrialNet screenings for siblings and other relatives of those with T1D will be conducted from 3:00 - 8:00pm. |
